Every Friday night used to be pizza night in my house growing up and I always looked forward to it! But as I got older, I lost my excitement for pizza (I know don’t unfollow me, I swear this gets better!). If you ask most of my friends or anyone who knows me really well, they will tell you I’m not that big of a pizza fan. I can easily pass on it normally and would usually prefer a taco, chips, and guacamole, or a burger and fries as a treat night meal. BUT after discovering a pizza place in Venice a few months ago I’ve fallen in love again. So obviously, I set out to recreate this magical experience but in a healthier way.

The key ingredient here is something a little unexpected, certainly not a normal pizza ingredient… plain greek yogurt. Yes, folks, that’s what makes this pizza dough come together and gives it some added protein (high 13 grams for 1/3 of the pizza in just the dough!), meaning you’ll feel fuller after eating a slice than you would with an average pizza slice!

The other star of this dough is the everything bagel season that is sprinkled on the crust. If you have a Trader Joes near you then you can pick it up in the store, if not you can easily make your own seasoning to add to the crust! But it seriously is a pizza crust game changer. I’ve always been a fan of the crust and when it’s seasoned it’s that much better!

Another amazing thing about this recipe is it comes together in literally a matter of minutes and cooks in about 15 minutes, meaning you can cook dinner and eat it in under 45 minutes! Hallelujah! I used to combine these ingredients by hand in a bowl but using my Vitamix to bring the dough together makes this SO easy! If you don’t have a Vitamix, a blender or food processor will work here as well! And if you don’t have either of those, roll up your sleeves and use your hands to combine! A little mess never hurt anybody!

The best part about this pizza dough is you can get as creative as you want with the toppings. One of my favorite things to do is to create your own pizza night with friends or family! Prep a bunch of the dough by either doubling the recipe or making several recipes, roll out the dough to be more of personal pan size, and put the dough in the fridge until your guests arrive! Then grab different sauces (red sauce, white sauce, garlic sauce, olive oil, and garlic, etc) and plenty of different meat and veggie toppings and of course some mozzarella cheese for the top and let each person create the pizza of their dreams!

Does anyone else love to make your own pizza at home?! Have you ever tried adding seasoning to the crust? I would love to hear your favorite topping combos below too, leave a comment and let me know! I’m always looking for new delicious combos. My favorite at the moment is adding a little something spicy like slices of jalapeno or pickled jalapeno and when the pizza comes out of the oven a little drizzle of honey on top! SO GOOD! You must try it if you like a sweet and spicy flavor! I know I talked about this dough recipe for a while so I’m so excited to finally have it up on the blog for all of you! Enjoy it!

Everything Bagel Protein Pizza Dough

Ingredients**
1 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt
1 cup whole wheat or white whole wheat flour or gluten-free flour of choice
1 1/2 tsp baking powder (not necessary if using self-rising flour)
1/2 tsp salt (not necessary if using self-rising flour)
everything but the bagel seasoning from Trader Joes (if you don’t have access to a TJ’s combine – sesame seeds, sea salt flakes, dried minced garlic, dried minced onion, black sesame seeds, poppy seeds)
olive oil spray
**Recipe adapted from MindOverMunch

Method
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Place all ingredients into a Vitamix, blender, food processor, or in a bowl. Blend or mix well to combine into a dough ball. You may need to add a little more yogurt or more flour depending on how your dough feels. If it’s sticky (too wet) add a little extra flour because it will be impossible to roll out! If the dough is cracking it’s too dry so add a little more yogurt or even some water to the mix!

Once you have a perfect dough ball use a floured service and a rolling pin to roll out the dough or place on a sprayed and floured baking sheet and push it out into the shape you want on the sheet! Whatever works best for you!

Once you have your pizza dough on the baking sheet, create a crust and spray it with an olive oil spray and sprinkle the Everything but the Bagel seasoning on the edges! Then top the dough with whatever sauce and toppings you would like! My favorite combo recently is tons of veggies and pepperoni with sliced jalapenos for a little kick!

Pop into the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until dough is brown and looks cooked through to your liking. Then I like to set the oven to a high broil for 1-2 minutes to get the cheese nice and bubbly! Remove from the oven and let cool, then grab your pizza slicer and slice into 8 slices and enjoy with a side salad and kombucha or beer!
